What is “Dižvanagi”?

“Dižvanagi”. It is a team which refuses to say ‘we can’t’.
History
The society “Dižvanagi” was founded in 2008, setting rehabilitation and implementation of socialization programs for children with disabilities and formation of a support system for the children’s families as its main goals.
On July 23, 2009 the society was awarded Public Benefit Status by Decision No 187 of the Ministry of Finance of the Republic of Latvia.
On May 12, 2011 the Registry Certificate No 746 of Social Services was received.
Mission
Integration of children with special needs in the community to which all activities of the society are related to.
Scope of activities
During the seven years of the society’s existence the main directions of the activities have been set. They are:
- Classes of support groups and educating seminars for the families with disabled children.
- House Neurorehabilitation Program in collaboration with B.B. Slawow.
- Children’s palliative home care.
- Inclusive day camps for children with disability “Ponies’ School”.
- Camps for families with terminally ill children, “Little Princes’ Summer”.
- Canistherapy – as an additional rehabilitation and motivation program for children.
- Organization of charity concerts and different activities for the society’s target audience (Easter, ringing in the Summer Solstice, Christmas events etc.),
- Maintenance of the Mini Zoo which was created in order to develop the therapeutic effect of the children’s enjoyment and environment.
Vision
In the foreseeable future the intention of the society is to create a rehabilitation centre (in “Dižvanagi”, Grobiņa Region), where it is planned to offer in one place different therapies and rehabilitation possibilities for the children with special needs, as well as support activities for their families.
